Angry Video Game Nerd – Season 2 Review

It took over a year to do, but the episode reviews for AVGN Season 2 are complete. I’ve covered all 24 episodes and it’s a strange thing to do – going back over these videos somewhat nostalgically and taking a slightly different look at them, trying to figure out just what makes them work, for me at least, and what I think about the content as it stands.

These videos are popular, even today, so as much as some people may dislike them now, there’s something to be said about them in the grand scheme of online gaming related content.

As for my actual covering of Season 2, I think I did well enough. I certainly didn’t complete them by the December timetable I set out in the article AVGN Season 2 Review Plan but I still was able to cover everything I wanted properly – the 2 split episodes were covered together, and the missing episode (Atari Porn) was handled about as one would expect it to be. I originally had some doubts as to if I should cover it or not, but in the end, eh, why not? Why censor myself?

As for Season 2 in and of itself, it’s not bad. It has its slow points – Ghostbusters seems to drag on when you really watch all 3 of them together, and a few episodes feel a tiny bit forced, but most of it is solid, improving on what James had done for the original episode set from 2006. Some episodes, like Silver Surfer, have become true classics in Nerd history.

You can tell in Season 2 that James really started to have fun with the series here – like, the entire process of making these videos became a regular part of his life, as opposed to being just something he did as Season 1 starts.

By the end of it, we’re up to early 2008, and at this stage the Nerd was really taking off. Season 3 would be where his content would begin to shine (and where I would first experience an AVGN episode when it was new) but that’s another article for another time.

Below is, as will become standard, the entire Season 2 video uploaded by James in 2015, for those who want to watch the whole season in one go (and really see how long the Ghostbusters episodes drag on for!) As with Season 1, it’s nice to put on if you’re needing some background entertainment while working on something else.

That being said, enjoy, and I’ll be covering Season 3 soon enough. More to come, as always.
