It’s that time yet again – Octobers Games with Gold releases have been announced, and it’s… exactly what you would expect, honestly.
Let’s get into it.
First off on the Xbox One we have “Overcooked!” and “Victor Vran.”
Oh boy. Overcooked. One of those games, take an idea like cooking, make a party game out of it, release, and watch it die within a few weeks of launch. This is the kind of stuff that was a dime a dozen on the Wii, and while it may be a fun game, it’s just not what I’m interested in. Party action semi-puzzle games? No thank you.
Following that, we get something that looks a little better with Victor Vran. Looks quite a bit like Diablo to me, which isn’t a bad thing by any means – I’d much rather have this kind of adventure title than whatever the hell Overcooked is. This is also the only game this month that even remotely fits in with October and the spooky fun that is Halloween so enjoy it.
On the Xbox 360, we get Stuntman: Ignition and Hitman: Blood Money.
Oh boy. Another racing game except this isn’t actually a racing game, it’s more of a “drive through this area this way to do stunts” game. Okay, I’m down for giving that a shot. Might not be bad, or it could be terrible who knows.
Lastly comes Hitman: Blood Money. Okay, I’m a fan of the Hitman games – at least, Hitman 2. I’ve played it probably two dozen times and found it to be quite a solid experience. I haven’t much played any of the other Hitman games so this might be a good chance to play a more modern title in the series.
So, that’s it. I’ve got to say, this month is more underwhelming than normal. Now I’m normally an optimistic person about these games, but this assortment is just poor at best. A few titles might appeal to some people more than most, but on a whole nothing just screams “I have to have it.”
Hopefully, November will be better, but as for October this year? Another poor month.
