Shit Just Keeps Getting Worse – Pandemic Log 7-7-202

This is just a post to update readers that things are as fine as they can be on my end of things. The world is in a hell of a state right now — well, mainly the US is. The continued political strife is as heated as ever and, exactly as anyone with any sense thought Coronavirus has done nothing but thrive here.

I really can’t even be bothered to give a full update, the situation is, for lack of any better phrasing, completely fucked up. Local authorities have finally made masks mandatory, in a sense they really want you to wear them. They, sadly, aren’t fining and locking people up like they should, and at this stage seeing someone without a mask on outright pisses me off – they seriously need to be kicked out of whatever place they are in, very vocally. Ostracized until they are guilt forced into finally complying with something that no one on the goddamn planet should even remotely question. If people are somehow right to get pissy with me because I don’t watch super hero movies, their asses should be locked away for not caring if they spread a disease like this. To me if you refuse to wear a mask you are no better than a terrorist.

Strong words? Sure, but I have strong feelings on this issue from multiple standpoints — that not withstanding the basic fact that common fucking decency should incline you to wear the mask for the sake of others.

Rates are, naturally, increasing thanks to areas opening up and it’s absolutely fucking hilarious to see cities and states say they re-opened too early.

You fucking think so? Everyone with any fucking sense could have told you that. But no, you don’t listen to the people who have half a clue – instead you give into “I want to talk to the manager” soccer moms and “big truck to compensate for my small manhood” tough guys and after a month of quarter-assed “restrictions” and look at what happened.

The whole time, however, you were telling those of us in the scientific field, even just those of us who are educated on this stuff to have a basic comprehension of the subject, that we were wrong, and yet every single thing that major health organizations said would happen has happened, most prevalent in the areas that were most vocal about opening back up.

It doesn’t take a genius to put 2 and 2 together.

Oh, and before you say it, no, the protests were not responsible for the boosts in cases. While it certainly had a chance to spread in those groups, and likely did, consider this – these people, masks or not, weren’t just hanging out next to eachother for hours on end. They were moving. They were out and about. They were only exposed to any other individual for a reasonably short time, as opposed to all the party-goers, beach combers, etc, who are taking no precautions and going about life as normal – they are where the hot spots are.

It’s so fucking obvious, and people still want to deny it. Is this how stupid most people in the United States are? Apparently so, and that sickens me to know the same nation that landed people on the fucking Moon is, 50 years later, so full of idiots that Europe has banned Americans entry. Not just Europe, but Mexico as well! Oh the delicious irony!!!!!

I said on my personal Facebook page as this began to spread in the US that I feared over – on March 23rd, 2020 my exact words were as follow:

It’s sad, but I really don’t see this all panning out well. At the stage we’re at, we’ve already done lost the chance to really stop this thing without going into total shutdown… and sadly all I can see resulting is possibly a million or more dead.

At the time people said I was crazy. This was just after my first entry on the subject, and just before things really started to “heat up” locally, if memory serves.

Now, at this stage, with as many infections in the US as have happened (3 million), with as many as have already died (134,000) and we’re not even past “wave 1?” Well, forgive my lack of optimism but I think it’s safe to say shit’s pretty fucked, and those complaining about the basic concept of even trying to do something to help others like stay home, wear a mask, etc? It’s their fucking fault. Period.

As an aside, we’ve finally begun allowing customers back inside of work, but we’re (obviously) super limited in the number of people who can come in, and masks are required. Sadly, we have gotten those few people who react with a “whatever” when we ask them to put on a mask or leave, but at this stage I can’t even begin to care about their “hurt feelings” or whatever. Most customers are super cool about it and glad we’re being cautious.

Still, this shit is spreading. Every day there is a statistically greater chance you, or someone you know, may contract COVID-19, and that’s the most terrifying thing. I actually feared earlier this week that I had contracted it and was beginning to get sick from it – turns out it was an unrelated fever and a side effect of some very poor sleep, but damn if it wasn’t a terrifying couple of days.

I’ll probably have another update soon. There is more I want to say, more I feel I need to say, but I can only vent so much into text in a given day.

It’s been an incredibly stressful year… and it’s only half over.
