So, I got Stalker: Call of Pripyat, last night. I was going to play, but the game simply wouldn’t show for shit on my comp. Now, the other 2 stalker games ran as fine as they could, anyway, on my aging machine. So what was the issue?
Simple. The video card. Amazingly, as useful as that Diamond Radeon wtfever was, and as nice as it was to finally be able to watch videos encoded in a certain random codec, I sadly could not play PIU Pro with it, NOR would it run a Stalker title to save its life.
So, sadly, I have had to resort back to my Nvidia 6200.. nothing else really is an option, as these are about the best I know of in basic PCI video cards. Seriously, don’t give me that “what, no PCI express” crap: don’t you think if I had the ability to use such a card I would? This comp is from 2003. Yes, I need a new one, and will get one when I can. For now, this will still suffice.
Point is, it is sad that I have to go back to a card that has given me hell for a year now. Oh well.
Interesting note is, that radeon was fucked up to begin with: I got it used of epay, and what do you know if the fan wasn’t dead on it. Luckily I have a specialty fan always aimed at my video card, but that isn’t the point: it should work, period.
As for CoP: looks nice, from the few minutes I finally have been able to play of it.
