In this video, we take a look at a talk Jason Scott gave at Marist College in New York on the subject of the History of the Internet.
Jason Scott, if you don’t recognize the name, is a somewhat odd gentlemen, obsessed with preserving computer history, including that of the early BBS systems and Internet during it’s growth. Being the kind of person he is, he doesn’t talk about the history of the internet from a conventional standpoint, instead taking the route of discussing how the infrastructure of communication in the United States came about.
That’s right, he starts from the days of the Telegraph and works his way up, explaining how the systems actually functioned and how this grew into the basis for the logical backbone of the internet.
I naturally find these kinds of things interesting, and almost any talk Jason Scott does is enjoyable to listen to thanks to his quirky personality.
