Long time followers of my work, primarily those who follow me on Twitter and YouTube, will remember a little project known as Xadara Gamechat, an audio podcast where I and a friend would discuss gaming subjects, new and old. While a very fun project to work on, sometimes there were issues, and there was content I didn’t want to put out there for of a multitude of reasons.
It’s been about a year since the last GameChat and in that time I’ve talked with my friends about reviving it, and even recorded some whole episodes, but I’ve never released them because it just didn’t feel right yet. Now, however, I think I might just be able to make it work again.
Part of the problem was the platform for the original podcast – YouTube. I don’t hold back my opinions on YouTube as a platform, and while it does give a massive maximum audience, it does have it’s own problems in the types of content users expect, and the general quality of the users themselves – they tend to hate anything that isn’t exactly what they want, and thus, they blame you for their own lack of interest in content that they chose to click on.
In any case, such content will often get lost in the fold and most commonly found by people who won’t care to listen to it. Also, rendering and uploading massive videos every single time gets to be a pain after a while, so, audio only is the best way to go. Besides, listening to a podcast via YouTube doesn’t allow for nearly as many on-the-go options as one would expect, making it even harder for people to actually enjoy the content in their day to day lives.
Enter Xadara itself – while yes, pushing content out there is going to be slightly more difficult, at the same rate, I have complete control. Add in one podcasting plugin for WordPress and you get a system that hopefully will work a treat for what I intend to do.
XadaraCast will still have a heavy focus on gaming, but will also discuss various other interests that I, and my co-hosts, have. If you like the content of this site then XadaraCast will be right up your alley. I’m aiming for shorter episodes than GameChat, but you never know what will happen – it could be 30 minutes, it could go for a few hours! I also have no idea when the episodes will be, but hopefully more often than not.
Time will tell, but I’m excited to bring this type of content back to my fanbase: A group of people that I honestly consider friends.
Get ready, it’s about to be an awesome time!
