When I wrote earlier about the announcement of the Switch, I said that it was “Exactly what I thought it was going to be.” I didn’t quite explain it well, which happens when I first get writing about something spur-of-the-moment. I thought I should explain myself better.
We all knew the NX was going to be a mobile gaming system that you could play at home. The thing is, people had crazy ideas on just how this would be. The speculation was all over the place. I, personally, was gunning on a tablet like device, with normal controls, that would connect to a TV but otherwise be portable. Many others thought it would be something quite different, and then rumor on top of rumor started: no one focused on what the most logical machine would actually be, which, to me, was a tablet-like device that would work wherever.
Yeah, everyone knew the general idea of what the NX would be and many others were spot on, just like I was, on their idea of it. It doesn’t change the fact that with all the hype, all the rumors, save for a few late “leaks” (such as the removable controllers), the physical form and function the device took was exactly what I, and many others thought. I was surprised, and very happy, that it came out to be the most logical design one would expect, and nothing crazy like so many others were.
Rumors come and go, but in the end, the actual hardware, as delivered, is what matters. Stop with the hype and wait patiently for the actual machine to be shown. At least then you know you will get exactly what you expect.
That’s what I mean. It was as logical as it should be, as simple as it should be, and I like what I see.
