Ah, Pokemon Go – the game that took over last summer and then, oddly enough, quickly faded away. At the time, I was on a Windows Phone device, so I didn’t get the chance to experience it. Recently, I had to get a new phone and decided to give Android another try. This allowed me to actually play Pokemon Go for the first time and while it was fun, it quickly got redundant. Combined with the buggy nature of the game, and the amount of storage it ate up caused me to uninstall it just as quickly, much like many others who played it back in the Summer eventually did.
In any case, the game is finally getting a major update in the form of some new options during combat, new character customization options and, most importantly, the addition of 80 new monsters from the 2nd generation of games, Gold and Silver. This was a Pokemon generation I missed out on in 2000, so I don’t have as much of a nostalgic feel about these monsters as I would the original 150, but it’s still nice to see more “classic” monsters being added in.
Honestly it’s somewhat hard for me to really get excited over Pokemon Go – I really gave up on the games in the mid 2000’s as while they are fine games it just got to be too much to keep up with and invest my time into (seriously, the actual games are far more complex than just “catch em all” as they are often though to be) and other hobbies and interests called my name, so to speak.
I’ll still give this a shot when the update comes along. Who knows, it could be fun to mess with again. Perhaps this update will fix some of the poor gameplay experiences I had. I doubt it, but hey, you can hope, right?
