This is the NASA live video of the 360 degree launch of Cygnus CRS OA-7 on Atlas V. Now, this was touted as “the words first 360 degree filmed launch” but that’s not entirely true. United Launch Alliance, the company that produces Atlas V and conducted this launch, has filmed some of their launches using 360 degree cameras before – this was just the first live broadcast of such in 360, which honestly didn’t work out so well – the video cut out at ignition and jumps about 10 seconds forward (don’t read the comments, they are full of idiots who don’t get what happened)
So, just to clarify…
This was not the first 360 degree video of a rocket launch, just the first livestream of such, and it went poorly due to the rocket itself cutting the feed from the camera.
There. I had to clarify that, as I hate misinformation of any and all types. In fact it looks like NASA and other groups have tried to fix this misconception! Good for them. That being said, here is the video. Enjoy.
