Another video today, this time from Bungie, covering some new elements to the social aspect of gameplay in Destiny 2: Clans, and Guided Games.
Clans are now more deeply integrated into active gameplay, funcitioning much like guilds have traditionally in MMO RPG’s for, geeze, probably over two decades now! The basic situation of having a pool of people who might not be your friends, but all have like-minded interests and ideas, goals, what have you, in regards to the game (or in real life, it’s whatever) and having it being integrated into the game directly (where before it was more of a passive element for the website and the like) is pretty awesome for the more hardcore, team and goal oriented players. Traditional, sure, but necessary for a game like this.
Following that, we have “Guided Games” which are more simple than they sound – a group opens itself up to have a random person join in who is looking for a group of people to “guide” them through a given raid or strike, mission types that require full teams to accomplish successfully. This allows people who normally, for whatever reason, don;’t have or don’t want to play with others and thus miss out on such content (such as the antisocial author of this site 😉 ) a chance to play with people who are willing to have someone green on their team – they get to play the event, you get to join in and be a part of the action all without (hopefully) any issues, since the group you are with wants to help!
While I don’t think I’ll make much use of it, I do love the idea and who knows – maybe when I get the game I’ll warm up to it. Ya never know! I like what I see though, and I am getting optimistic about Destiny 2. Let’s see what happens!
