Yesterday, during their E3 conference, Microsoft finally have a name, a price, and a release time to their long anticipated “Scorpio” project: Xbox One X.
While yes, as always you can make some jokes about the name, the fact remains the console, spec wise, looks absolutely amazing. What we have advertised is:
Dolby Atmos Sound, True 4K resolution, 12GB of DDR 5 Memory, 4K UHD Blu-Ray playback capability, HDR (high dynamic range) image capability, and some raw stats listed as: 326GB/Second of Memory Bandwith and a 6 Teraflop GPU clocked at 1.172 GHZ.
The Xbox One X is not only the most powerful Xbox ever, it’s also quite tiny. Just look at it!
What does this all mean? Proper modern HIgh End audio and video support, with more than enough overhead to make all the Xbox One games released over the past few years look and run in top quality.
That’s really the key element, and the thing that the natural “haters” will ignore – much like upgrading your PC to run games better, this upgraded hardware will run games far better than even the original Xbox One did (which while some games did suffer, issues were still less common than people might act like they were).
The reason I can say this with such confidence is that the Xbox One S, released last year, had slight improved stats over the original Xbox One models, and it ran many games noticeably better. Improved load times, less slow down during intense sections, and fewer examples of irregular gameplay – The One S showed that the “upgrade and tweak” method of console releases was viable.
The Xbox One S already proved that the idea of upgrading the XBox One hardware worked to improve gameplay quality.
Of course, Sony released the Playstation Pro the past year, and that console was much in the same spirit of the Xbox One X – a more powerful version of the same machine. I’m not going to lie; I’m so out of the loop when it comes to Playstation 4 stuff I don’t know how, in the long run, it’s fared and how people who purchased the console have taken to what improvements it does offer – I’ve truly heard nothing much about it and know no one who has one, so I honestly am in the dark.
What I do know is, based on what I have seen, experienced, and heard, the Xbox One X will be an amazing machine. There is no hype to be had, as hype to me is making a presumption based on no real evidence – this machine is going to be an absolute beast, and I feel it will be worth it.
I have only one question: What will the hard drive space be? No, seriously, what will the onboard storage be?!?
