Angry Video Game Nerd – Season 1 Review

Well, somehow, I did it: I reviewed all 15 episodes, plus two “pilot” episodes of what would become Season 1 of “The Angry Video Game Nerd” . I’m sure some of you are thinking “Wow, he’s really scraping for content if he is reviewing the whole season after reviewing the whole season” but this has it’s purpose: the show was, and still is evolving, changing to match with what James wants to try, stylistic changes, and the advancement of technology on a whole changing how James made his videos.

Anyway, as for Season 1… It’s certainly the most unique phase of the Nerd series because this is the beginning: this is where he establishes what the series would be.

There are some good episodes, and some bad ones – some absolute classics and some quite forgettable. Many of the things we would come to expect, such as Halloween and Christmas specials, certain common phrases and generic insults, tropes of comparing every game to Simon’s Quest or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, season 1 gets the ball rolling on a show many of us would come to love.

All in all, Season 1 is good. I can’t really give it a full numerical rating, but it wasn’t bad. Below is the complete Season 1 video from Cinemassacre, if you want to binge watch all 2 hours of it – it’s nice to put these on if you are working on something that’s time intensive but allows for moderate distraction, maybe.
