Nearly a month after Photobucket somewhat wrecked a pretty substantial chunk of the internet by locking hotlinking of images behind a very pricey paywall, users are still searching for alternatives, both common ones you would think of, and obscure ones that may be more fitting of niche uses.
I, for one, am going to give postimage.org a try. Now, I have to say I’m not being sponsored by them, or anything like that – it’s just the site I happened to try when I did a test in the original article on this mess (which you can read here) as a place to hold the actual image of my friends website while it was in (and weeks later, still is) in disarray thanks to the Photobucket paywall bullshit.

It worked out well enough for me, but then again, as I have mentioned before, my site has a system installed where uploaded images are copied, and hosted from, wordpress servers. I still have to upload them to the site, of course, which for images I might only use once, isn’t all that great. Having an off-site repository though, that would be fine for me for images for things like, let’s say, game reviews, as a prime example of single-use or limited-use imagery.
Now, I’ve read reviews about issues with the ads present on the site, or what have you – I don’t know, and honestly, don’t care unless something does affect one of my readers more directly. From what I’ve seen, these are one-off cases that are liable to happen on many websites, and in the capacity I’m using the site for hosting, well, it should be a minimal issue at most.
I’m just throwing it out there as an option for those interested. So far seems fine to me, but your mileage may vary.
