I was fortunate enough to be able to experience a majority of the solar eclipse yesterday with only one issue – clouds.
Yes, as is typical for this area, the time I need the skies clear it goes from mostly clear to storms rolling by, all while the eclipse was happening! Just my luck, right?
Clouds thankfully broke right about the time of 94% totality (the best we got here in Memphis) so, I was able to enjoy the best view possible without me traveling a good ways north, something I didn’t feel like doing this time – maybe next time.
Of course I had solar glasses to view the eclipse with, but I also had my video camera (wow, archaic term right?) ready with decently tinted welding glass over the lens. The footage I got wound up with a green tint, and some major reflections depending on the light levels, but in the end, I was able to get some amazing footage, including some frames early on which actually showed sunspots!
I’m going to spend some time editing the footage together, as best I can. I don’t know if I will color correct or not since doing such with such extremely green footage probably won’t come out correct at all (it’s basically a green equivalent of black-and-white footage) so it certainly will be unique, at least. The clouds certainly make things more interesting.
I did also take some video using the solar glasses over the lens, so there is that footage as well. I guess we will see what happens with that. It should be fun, but it will also take some time to edit.
