Getting into the guts of AVGN Season 2 we have a trio of episodes devoted to video games based on the Ghostbusters franchise. The original film is considered an absolute classic by many, and its sequel, Ghostbusters 2, while not as well received, still isn’t a bad film by any means. The show eventually got a cartoon series in the late 80’s and the early 90’s, and along with all of this came a line of toys and video games.
The Ghostbusters video games, unlike the animated series and (most) of the toys, were pretty terrible. In particular in this video, we take a look at the first game, simply titled “Ghostbusters”. This was one of those games released on everything known the man at that time – the NES, the Commodore 64, the Atari 2600, the Sega Master System, and probably some other obscure consoles I can’t even begin to recall. In this video though, in Nerd tradition, we take a look at the NES Version.

This is one of those games James had as a kid. His hatred of it and the detail he goes into shows his experience with the game, something other videos both new and old lack at times. With that being the case, James has much more to work with than he does other games that are new to him, and that makes the review, and the jokes and criticisms all the more enjoyable.

Conglaturations. This episode goes down as one of the more memorable in the early days of the series. While I find it somewhat tedious to watch now (unlike some other episodes that I can watch over and over) I still do enjoy the comedy in it – delivery that’s pretty solid, and good usage of the material in the game (especially the ghost vacuum call). Even subtle elements like the Ghostbusters game music playing constantly in the background add to it – James certainly put some energy into this one all around, and it shows.
