Here’s a random treat for any fan of 80’s tech – raw footage of the 1985 Consumer Electronics Show.
This footage was, for a majority, taken in the areas showing home media and devices – not much in the way of computers or game consoles here. Plenty of names in the video and audio industry that you will recognize as still around today, as well as many companies you might remember who aren’t around anymore (or at least aren’t prominent.)
You get Betamax, you get VHS, you get big bulky camcorders, you get good old CRT TV’s, you get the then new CD+G format, you get reel-to-reel audio players and turntables, you get funky displays and when it’s all said and done probably more mid-80’s than you can handle, and I kind of love it.
As I said, this focuses mostly on home media products – there’s no Commodore 128 here, or other computer tech, but that’s fine – the soundtrack more than makes up for the lack of computers and more unique devices.
Ah, I’m just having fun with this one (and using it as a good filler for today) so, yeah, enjoy, if you have some time or just want to scrub through.
