I’m a little late getting this one up – it’s already January, but this wouldn’t be the first time I was a little behind on getting to covering these.
Right, let’s cut straight to this months 4 games: Van Helsing III, ZOMBI, Tomb Raider: Underworld, and Army of Two.
On The Xbox One we have Van Helsing III and ZOMBI.
Van Helsing III looks just just.. well.. meh, to me. Apparently it is the final title in a trio of Van Helsing games and according to some reviews when it was released it isn’t bad, but also isn’t anything special. Eh, I might fire it up, but it’s doubtful.
As for Zombi, boy, that seems familiar. Perhaps that’s the fact that this is an Xbox One port of the WiiU launch title which is actually a remake of an old ZX Spectrum game from 1989! The game apparently is quite solid and generally well received, and while I am certainly someone well burned out with the late 2000’s Zombie obsession, this might still be worth actually spending some time with.
On the Xbox 360 we have Tomb Raider: Underworld and Army of Two.
Oh boy, another pre-2013 reboot Tomb Raider game. Tomb Raider never interested me as much as it did other people. When you add in that fans of the series often have negative reactions to many of these later games in the series, I can’t say it makes me really have high hopes for them even if they are given to me free. Maybe one day I’ll fire this one up, but I dunno.
Lastly, we have Army of Two, a game from 2008, and boy does it look it. I can’t complain, though, as at least this is apparently a good game all around, but man does it show its age graphically. That’s not a problem though, compared to the fact that online servers for the game were shut down back in 2011, so you won’t be getting into any online shenanigans here. Then again, I’m not one to give a damn about online multiplayer so, it doesn’t bother me.
All in all, I’d say it’s an okay selection. Better than many other months, certainly, and thankfully there’s no damned racing game this time around – all action of some form or another, so, that’s a win.
Enjoy. As I always say, at least give them a shot – who knows, you might actually have some fun with these.
