Here’s a pretty awesome video I found a little while back and just now am getting to covering – a tour of the Disc Manufacturing Inc. compact disc production plant, showing the process by which CD’s were actually made in their facilities per customer requests.
The video is of course a promotional one designed to show those interested why DMI is the company to choose for compact disc production – these videos are always neat to me since they act as a time capsule of both the practical operations of the company, the tech and actual creation of the product (in this case CD’s) and how they want the world to see them and their products. It certainly takes ya back, at the very least.
Interestingly, from what I understand, the production methods for later optical disc formats, like DVD, hasn’t changed too much – it’s been improved in many ways, of course, as have the physical disc standards, but it kind of amazes me that CD’s are still produced, and have been for over 35 years now.
Anyway, I’ll let the video speak for itself. It’s really just neat if you’ve got 15 minutes to kill, and trust me, if you’re on this site, you’ve got time to kill!
Enjoy!
