Oh boy, finally getting around to these. Now, I know I normally try to get these out in the last week of the previous month, when they get announced officially by Microsoft, and a few times I’ve been late to getting these articles written. Well, in this case, Microsoft themselves dropped the ball, and didn’t publish this video until August 1st. That’s right, even Microsoft waited until the beginning of the month to publish the video.
Now, the video had been uploaded by other YouTubers, for some reason, before then, but I always like to wait until official releases of information to cover these kinds of things – not that I doubted the uploads, they were obviously the real video, but simply because it keeps things clean.
Anyway, on to the games.
On the Xbox One we have Forza Horizon 2 and For Honor.
Oh boy.. more racing. At least this is a good title, but for me, a moot point – I already have this as it came with my Xbox 360 E which I purchased in early 2016 (EDIT: It’s the Xbox 360 version, so this is technically a different title, but still, how likely am I to play the same racing game twice on two separate systems.) Granted, it’s Forza, which is a well respected series, so certainly something I should get around to playing, but still…
Moving on, we have For Honor. Funny, isn’t this a relatively recent release? Yes, yes it is – if you count a year and a half old as recent, which I do. Okay, cool. Looks like a fun title, and from what I’ve heard it’s not bad. I recall there being some issues people didn’t like but I think those, whatever they may have been, have been solved, so, who knows. I know I often say I’ll need to get around to playing some of these, but this one is absolutely a must-try game, I think.
On the Xbox 360 we have Dead Space 3 and Epic Mickey 2.
Alright, the final Dead Space game. Hell yeah! Sure I still haven’t gotten off my ass to play the first two, but it will be awesome to have all 3 available finally. At least, I think I have the other two on my Xbox live account. Why yes, yes I do, as they were given out in April of 2016 and April of 2018. Sweet. While I’ve heard the 3rd one isn’t as good, eh, I’m sure once I get playing them I’ll have fun.
Lastly we have Epic Mickey 2: The Power Of Two. Yawn. Another Disney title. To be fair its a well received game – considered very solid on game play, but you have to understand that the general base Disney properties are just not something I care about. While others seem to go ga-ga over them (see the Kingdom Hearts fanbase) such tends to make me just not care. Games based on films? Sure. Especially some of the great Disney games of the 16 bit era, but not something like this. That’s just how it goes, but hey, if it catches your interest, go for it.
That’s that, then. Nothing much to say on these. What I find funny is the comments and ratings for this month – people seem to actually love this months game set! Funny, considering to me it’s pretty typical, but I guess the other fans see this as something great. Probably because For Honor still costs $60 and most of the people commenting are probably kids who don’t have money for a game like that. Reminds me of the Genesis, SNES, and Playstation days, but without a chance at free games every month. Best we had were Demo Discs on the PS1 or borrowing a friends game!
Ah well, till next month!
