October 4th marked not only the 61st anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, but also marked the return to Earth of the Soyuz MS-08 mission and its crew from their 6 month stay at the International Space Station.
I normaly don’t cover landings but sometimes I feel it worth sharing thanks to the relatively good footage we got of this landing which shows the venting of the reaction control fuels and the touchdown of the Soyuz descent module, including that rather intense rocket firing which happens right before landing to soften the actual process of hitting the ground. It’s kind of awesome and is something I should write about sometime. Maybe when Soyuz MS-09 lands in another few months.
I’ve got nothing else special to say about this one, I just wanted to share the video since, as I said, it’s been a while since I wrote about a Soyuz landing. Enjoy!
