Yep, we’re pulling out that dirty word here on Xadara — Backlog.
The backlog is what happens when I don’t get around to writing about some topics which interest me, but aren’t super urgent. Things I make note of to cover, but never get around to. It’s a constant source of stress and annoyance when I think about the site.
I don’t like the idea of leaving things unfinished, and in a way the backlog is the ultimate in me leaving things incomplete — so incomplete they never get started, and I hate that.
I also hate the number of random text documents I have scattered around my hard drive with note after note on things to cover, some outdated as anything, others not so much. Some I intentionally held off on and others I just got too wrapped up in other things to care about until it wasn’t worth writing about them. The end result? Backlog.
You see where I’m going with this. I want to begin tackling the backlog more now than ever before, especially since now I feel I will really have the time and space to cover more of those crazy, random things I’ve noted over the years — the ones still worth covering, anyway. This is all part of a planned strategy for me getting the site back the way I want it to be.
The idea is this. Step 1, I somewhat reboot the site, which is what I’m doing now. I open up with some posts really helping to set what the site is about (such as this one you’re reading now) and get things in order. Step 2 is getting into the various article series I’ve been working on. Continue with Computer Chronicles episodes and AVGN episode reviews, among a few other projects. Cool, sorted. Step 3 the backlog, fleshing out the serialized content with more random interest pieces. Finally step 4 is expansion and continuation of other projects, some not directly related to the site in and of itself (YouTube, etc) but are still projects worth doing.
As mentioned in the previous article my intent is to have fun with this site again. While I will still talk about some more serious subjects where applicable (the backlog, for example, does have quite a few things of a serious nature in it) I want to get back to having genuine fun with this site, and talking about things more casually.
Of course as part of the upcoming changes a much more serious section is being added to the site to help me get those “I have to speak about this” ideas out there, but that’s another article for another time.
For now, we continue with step 1 and hopefully tonight or tomorrow move into step 2.
More to come, as always.
