It’s been a bit of a strange week for Xadara. I haven’t posted much in about a week, but my site traffic has been higher than it has in a long time for reasons I just can’t quite understand.
The other weekend I had a spike in traffic which made sense – I was writing about the Firefox Add-on problem, and since it was a pretty major news topic at that time I got an expected boost in traffic, from the usual 50 or so views a day to the 200-250 range. Since Xadara has always stayed a somewhat “small” site it’s nice to get jumps like that.
Following that, views stayed in the 80-150 per day range, which was pretty awesome. Many of these hits were still related to Firefox, but most views have been spread out across multiple articles which tend to get hits regularly. Nothing looked too odd until yesterday, when my most popular article on YouTube channels you’ve unsubscribed from showing in your feed got 240 views in one day! This pushed my total views yesterday to over 300, a number I’ve not hit since some local idiocy which I capitalized on nicely.
As I write this at about 1 P.M. Central time I’ve already got 140+ views for today, most of those, as you would expect, on that most popular YouTube article, with related ones bringing up the next highest total view counts.
It’s honestly kin of crazy to me because I just can’t figure out why all this traffic is coming to Xadara. Did Google drop the ball and more people than ever are still seeing uploads from channels they no longer subscribe to in their feeds? Did I somehow get a boost in search engine rankings and this is just a natural progression? Most of the hits that are coming in are coming from Google searches across the globe, with Yandex and other search engines bringing up the tail end of things. That’s always been the way of most of my hits, though, but the sheer volume over the past few weeks has been a bit crazy – there’s been constant growth over the past month, but hey, I’ll take it.
I wonder, though, if it will continue flowing this way, or if this is just a fluke. Time will tell, I guess. I just wanted to write about this for whatever it’s worth to other bloggers and the like. It’s sometimes fun to openly reflect on the numbers side of running a website like this. I do it for fun but it’s nice to see views come in!
More to come, as always.
