Earlier today I published an article on a social media mishap which happened last week. The article went through quite a few permutations during creation, including a few name changes. I didn’t like the original title I had given the article and, after a few tweaks, had found something that fit what I was going for, finalized everything.
When I published the article, I was surprised to see it had posted with the old title, with that old title also being the root of the URL. This was actually quite annoying, and has happened before — WordPress, for whatever reason, will seem to “revert” title changes. You can make them stick after the fact, but the edits I had made resulted in 3 copies of the article being sent to the Triberr blog sharing service, and me having quite a few social media platforms to go and delete, and re-share stuff to.
Basically, it was a damned mess and I wasn’t about to go through it all — I deleted the post and, once I got done with other things today, transplanted the content, made a new graphic (I didn’t like the original one, among other reasons) and finally republished.
As I said, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to edit articles to fix issues that WordPress has had in updating. I don’t understand exactly why this is happening, and will be looking into it more soon, but I wanted to at least share the information, as always, for what it’s worth to the reader.
More normal content to come, as always. Let’s hope this is the last time I have this annoyance happen to otherwise solid content.
