Sometimes, with some projects, you bite off a bit more than you can chew. Over the past month I’ve found this to be true with my my attempt to cover every episode of the animated series King of the Hill.
It’s one of those things I wanted to do because the idea sounded fun, and absurd. If that’s not been obvious, I enjoy doing things that, often times, make no reasonable sense, but still have a “fun” factor about them. Often these are chances for me to express how much I may genuinely enjoy something, which is what the King of the Hill episode reviews were to be.
Given how detail oriented I can be, these reviews naturally became deeper studies on the episodes than would be expected, or indeed, seem sane. That’s always been the joke, and a key element of the absurdity.
That also is quite a bit of work. Too much, it would seem, and while I enjoyed the end results – the 5 reviews written so far are, I feel, pretty good – the time and effort it takes to actually get one of those written just isn’t worth it. In much the same way I said YouTube videos were far too much effort for too little outcome, so too are these articles.
Sure, I play the “long game” with blogging — building up an incredible archive of everything I can possibly put out there, for whomever may enjoy it — but the KOTH episode reviews took up time that other things could have been written. Far too much time for me to be comfortable with. Something has to give or I would effectively need to spend every moment of my free time writing here.
So, for the foreseeable, I’ll have to call that project off. It sucks but what can ya do? As I always say, if you’re not having fun, what’s the point?
More to come… just not King of the Hill anytime soon.
