In the past I’ve mentioned how late Microsoft can be about putting out the Games with Gold video for each month — sometimes waiting until a few days into that month to get it up. This time, they jumped the holiday gun early and pushed out the video on the 19th! That’s right, a week and a half early! Damn!
That just means I get to talk about these games that much sooner, and yes, I know this is a Saturday but whatever — let’s take a look!
First off, we have for the Xbox One Styx: Shards of Darkness and Batman: The Telltale Series.
Styx: Shards of Darkness is a sequel to Styx: Master of Shadows, which happens to be a game previously available on Games with Gold. This is a stealth action gaming where you play as a goblin thief character. I have yet to give the first game a try so I can’t really comment on what I expect here — it’s probably not bad, but I find these kinds of games aren’t totally for me. As always, maybe it’s worth you giving a try, just to see if you like it.
Later in January we have Batman: The Telltale Series. Yawn! I’m just not that interested in Batman, or superheros, on a whole, so I’ve got little interest in this one. Being a Telltale game, you know what to expect – a storytelling game that will pretty accurately capture the world, characters, and style of the franchise, but this is just something I can’t get into personally.
On the Xbox 360 we’ve got Tekken 6 and LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.
Tekken 6 eh? Okay, that’s a good one. A solid fighting game entry in a series I’ve grown to enjoy and appreciate. Cool. I’ll certainly give this one a go. Sorry I don’t have that much more to say but hey, it’s Tekken — I’d imagine you know what to expect here as well.
Lastly we have LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. Oh boy, Lego Star Wars makes another appearance here. These games can be fun, sure, and they are amusing and play well, but man can they be drawn out level wise. Still, that could just be my experience and maybe you would enjoy them more — you, or your kids if you have ’em, since this is another case where I think this was a “game for the kiddos to play” rather than one for the average adult gamer. Such is the nature of the older consoles end of life phase.
That’s really it. About the only thing I’m looking forward to is Tekken 6, the rest I could take or leave. Sure, I’ll take — I never turn down a free game, but you know what I mean.
