Hello there. If you’re reading this, it means one of two things — you either saw this post on my site / shared somewhere on social media and decided to click it, or I intentionally shared it with you for a good reason — you seem to be hell bent on starting some kind of argument on Twitter, and I’m not about to fall in to it. At all. Period.
I discussed in detail in December about “Why In Depth Discussion Or Debate Is Nearly Impossible On Twitter” just why, as the title says, why any kind of “deep” discussion on the site is impossible.
Here’s the thing — people know this. They know this very well, and many seem to wish to take advantage of this nuance of the site. By flooding the opposition and taking advantage of the infinite sub-threading nature of the site, an agitator can easily create an endless chain of sub-topics to wear out whomever they are trying to argue with. This is intended to exhaust and infuriate the other party, eventually forcing them to leave the conversation so, of course, the person who did nothing but agitate someone, rather than prove a point, can declare themselves a winner. (This is something I spoke up against in “Blocked for A Reason” but in short form, pissing someone off by being an obnoxious idiot isn’t “winning” anything.)
So, no, you there, random person on Twitter who I’m in a disagreement with, I’m not going to argue with you on the service. I know how it will go, you won’t even consider anything I have to say, you’ll just assert your stance regardless of how I address your points, you will ignore all counterpoints I provide, and simultaneously attack any attempt to counter what idiotic assertions you may have as being “too long” and asking why I “had to say all that” (as covered, again, in “Why In Depth Discussion Or Debate Is Nearly Impossible On Twitter” .)
In simple form, you know what you’re doing, and I know what you’re doing, and I’m not falling for it. I’ve been down this road too many times, with too many people saying too much stupid crap. Instead of considering any counterpoint brought and carrying on a sensible discussion, you insist on creating an argument and using well documented nuances of this site for the purposes of infuriating and annoyance, not for the sake of discourse and in depth conversation on subjects.
I’ve had enough discussions on Twitter go south so see it when it’s coming. I’m not wasting my time. If you wish to continue the discussion, you will find an email address at the bottom of the site. I’d be happy to continue it there, with the clarification that any an all email sent to that address is subject to publication on this site and should not be considered “private” in any capacity.
With that in mind, I welcome an actual discussion with you. Otherwise, eh, piss off.
