That’s right, the man himself is fully aware of the fact that I’m working to review every single AVGN episode. There’s a bit of a story behind it that’s at least somewhat worth sharing, so I felt today would be as good a day as any for that — gotta knock out that backlog sooner or later.
Here’s the deal: A friend of mine, “Tw3nz0r” was attending Free Play Florida in Orlando — actually providing some arcade machines for play there — and at the same event was, of course, James Rolfe. I can’t recall if he proposed the idea of if I said it as a joke, but not long after he had found out he would be attending this event he made a plan that if, or when, he met James at it, pending time, he would make James aware of my project and possibly show him an article.
That’s exactly what happened — when he got to meet James, he had just enough time to show him the index of episode reviews and chose the “Nightmare on Elm Street” Episode Review to be the one he got to read. Twen told me he “wrote down Xadara” on his phone and apparently “wanted to see my writing style” which was pretty cool to hear — James seemed genuinely curious about the project, or that’s the vibe I get from the description of the event and even now — months later, the fact that this event happened really makes me happy. Even if I didn’t get to meet James myself, my friend took time to show him my work, and that’s just awesome.
Yeah, there’s not much more to say about this topic, just that James is aware that the reviews exist, seems to have a positive opinion of them, and that’s that. As a disclaimer, I only state this as fact from my understanding of it as the event was relayed to me, and me saying this in no way is an actual statement of endorsement or support from James Rolfe or anyone connected to him, Cinemassacre, or anything else.
