Here we have the Games with Gold lineup for September 2020. It’s been quite the hit or miss year – many blame a focus on Gamepass for “killing” the Games with Gold lineup, something I find to be quite the over-posted comment without any reasoning behind it. Regardless of the reason, the lineup has been lacking, even to me, some months this past year. Can this be a month of redemption for the program? Let’s find out.
Starting off on the Xbox One we’re getting Tom Clancy’s The Division and The Book of Unwritten Tales 2.
Oh boy, The Division. A pretty big release when it was new, but a game that’s been not only superseded by its sequel but has likely been left by the wayside as any game more than 2 weeks old seems to be.
The comments on that one are pretty funny, especially one guy knocking the selection saying it was a “good game when he played it 5 years ago” which is impossible seeing as it was a 2016 release. Ignoring that he’s obviously trying to knock an “older” game being offered even though, you know, there’s no reason to expect a new game to be put on this list. I don’t know what these kids honestly think goes on but whatever – this is likely an enjoyable chance for those who have never played The Division but may be interested in giving it a try. This certainly will provide a new player base for the game, for better or worse. I’m cool with it, but probably won’t bother with it.
Next up is The Book of Unwritten Tales 2. A point and click adventure game? Eh, while I have respect for the genre they just don’t do it for me – in fact, the more modern they are the less I like them, as I just keep wishing they were a more typical action game. Looks like it could be fun for some people but even I have to make a hard pass on that one.
On the Xbox / Xbox 360 end of things we’re getting de Blob 2 and Armed and Dangerous.
Okay, de Blob 2 is an Xbox 360 title I’ve heard a bit about – apparently the series has a decent following, and looking at the video I like the idea of a paint mechanic, although the video doesn’t actually explain just how the mechanic is used in game. Look like a neat little platformer that I may try.
Lastly, we have Armed and Dangerous, and Xbox title! This looks like an outright ridiculous shooter, and one I may well enjoy! The video doesn’t say much about the game, but it looks like a blast. Honestly, I’m probably more excited for this than anything else this coming month!
So there you go. Not a bad assortment, but nothing super special to me. It’s about what I’d expect, but I can say one very good thing about it this time around – there’s no fucking racing games at all! Nice!
