After waking up early this morning to learn of the announcement of the Xbox Series S’s existence it should come as no surprise that Microsoft put out a video today promoting the upcoming hardware.
It’s quite a nice looking piece, to say the least – I’ve rather enjoyed the style that Microsoft has been promoting the Xbox band with the past few years, and this ad makes the Xbox Series S look very creamy, shall we say. It’s a strange thing to describe but when you watch it you’ll see what I mean.
I can’t say I’m a fan of the music choice, but it isn’t bad. Eh, what else would it be, though, when you think about it? Still, it does work and gets to be a catchy little track by the end of the ad, but that’s not what we’re here for – a disposable music track. Oh no, we care about what they want to show off, and what they do is an interesting little set of points, focusing on the 512GB SSD and its speed as well as the fact the console is “all digital” and thus no optical discs will be supported – just buy the game online like many already do.
The end gives a basic list of specs, like the expected 4K media streaming support, with gameplay up to 1440P at 120 frames per second – not bad at all, honestly, and for those of us still rocking an old 1080P display things should still look awesome.
The last point of focus is the release date – November 10th. That’s what I’m calling X day and while I normally don’t get too excited for such events as game console releases this time around I’m actually a bit excited. I like what I see here, and, as mentioned in the last article, can’t wait to see how the first few months of the consoles life play out.
Yes, I’m aware many have criticisms of the specs and the appearance – those are things I will address in the near future. For now I wanted to get this piece of promotional fluff covered so I can at least have touched on it as I continue to cover the part of a new console cycle that actually matters – the announcements from the companies behind the hardware and not the rumor mill that is every fanboy online.
Stick around for coverage that actually has some logic behind it. More to come, as always.
