I’m in the process of copying nearly 400 gigabytes of data to an external hard drive for archival purposes – some of it certainly will be deleted, if not most of it, with the remainder organized and stored away where it needs to be. The bulk of this is all data from previous projects which was never “cleaned up” and is otherwise useless, but some of it is worth keeping or otherwise “special” in some way.
Then there is a batch of files which I can only describe as an “Archive of Hate.”
These are mostly screenshots of various altercations I’ve seen, or personally been involved with, online, mostly captured over the past 5 years or so, but some date back a little further.
It certainly wasn’t my intention to catalog all these incidents – I often times take screenshots of most anything that may be of interest to friends, or may better demonstrate something going on than text ever could. That, of course, includes more negative interactions with other people on various social media platforms and, given my habit of not deleting stuff and instead just tossing it into subfolder after subfolder I’ve incidentally built up quite a collection of images depicting events I’d mostly forgotten about but, at the time, were clearly of note to me and, more importantly, demonstrate many of the things I don’t like about the way people behave on social media, or in general if you really take a deep look at it.
Indeed, some of these files were actually intentionally kept as opposed to just incidentally archived, as they make perfect examples for discussion sake. They may be a few years old, but that doesn’t change in any way the nature of what is said, the poor logic being applied, or any other traits.
A part of me has always wanted to touch on a few of these situations, but at the same time I never wanted to turn this site into too personal of a blog — nor make it a “drama” site in any way.
Still, I would be betraying myself if I didn’t do as I have previously and speak up about things I see that are, for lack of a better term, simply stupid in human behavior; all the better if it’s personal interactions with visual evidence of what actually was done.
These events are all generally either tangentially related to me or otherwise directly involved me and caused me some level of stress over the years. I dare say it might be cathartic to actually talk about these events and give them a “public funeral” as it were, taking my life experience and sharing it with the world so they can see in a pure form the common actions which I feel have ruined what the internet, by its very nature, is.
That, however, is a very long story in and of itself, with this archive only sharing a small portion — a pinhole’s view worth — of what all really does go on in the wonderland of Social Media.
To that end, expect to see some occasional posts from this catalog, tagged as such, of course, and me coming to terms with quite an annoying 8 years of my life before I continue forward, as we all do, into my future.
In the end, this is a good thing, for, and hopefully for others.
