Damnit, I did it again — I got busy and put off covering this months Games With Gold lineup until the middle of the freaking month! I’ve got to stop doing that but, again, better late than never I guess, right?
Let’s get into it.
Starting off on the Modern lineup we have Vikings: Wolves of Midgard and Truck Racing Championship.
Hmn, Vikings looks to be a rogue-like / Diablo style game. Always keen to try those out, they rarely disappoint at least for a little while — they do get repetitive at a point, but maybe that one won’t be so bad. May give it a shot.
Later in the Month we get Truck Racing Championship. I would make an F1 2013 joke here, but shit, this actually looks to basically be the same kind of simulation-style racing game, but with semi trucks. Were I a fan of those games I might find the different physics interesting, but I’ve yet to find a simulation racing title that I can even stand to play, so… yeaah… I’ll redeem it but this will likely never get played.
In the Classic lineup we have Dark Void and Hard Corps: Uprising.
Dark Void is a game I actually own, and have played a bit of. It kind of feels like Tomb Raider 2013 meets Destiny / Anthem but with a steampunk feel. I didn’t play it much, I got sidetracked by Destiny, I believe, but I like what I played of it — I’ll certainly be firing this one back up again and giving it an honest try.
Lastly is Hard Corps: Uprising. Oh, a Contra game that doesn’t call itself Contra. Okay, that’s cool. I love those kinds of run and gun titles (see my love of Metal Slug the other month) and this looks cool enough. Certainly a nice addition to my collection. I do want to note that I love that the script writer used the word “retro” correctly in this — that this was, at its time, a “new” game modeled like something old. Ah, a rare treat of people showing they actually care about what they say and mean.
A weak month, but not a bad one.
