All right, it’s October now which means not just Halloween season is upon us but also time for a look at a new set games in the Games with Gold lineup.
In the modern lineup we get Aeero and Hover. Ah, simple title names I don’t have to constantly triple check the spelling of as I write this thing. Nice.
Aeero looks like an interesting little space.. flying.. on rail music shooter? I don’t know the video makes it seem like a bit of a weird one, but that’s never a bad thing. Looks pretty cool, although it may be a sign of how (intentionally) out of touch I am in that I know none of the music artists mentioned. Doesn’t matter, though, the game looks fun.
Next up is Hover, which to me looks like a cross between the Jet Set Radio series and Sunset Overdrive, mixed with the only good aspects of Mirrors Edge — the parkour. Funny, I thought that stuff was a fad that had died, but here’s another game marketed with that as a key element. Ah well, it looks cool in its own right, much like Sunset Overdrive had its own unique feel. I’ll likely give this one a go as well.
In the Classic lineup we have two Xbox 360 titles – Caslevania: Harmony of Despair and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. Well, I can say these certainly fit the season, so I can’t complain there at least.
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is one I’ve, amazingly, never heard of. It seems to be a modern 2D Castlevania that plays a bit differently, what with multiplayer options and some other design changes. This is where I would peruse the Wikipedia entry for the game, but it’s actually amazingly sparse and doesn’t describe the game in a cohesive way, so, it will be a bit of a mystery but one I may enjoy trying out.
Lastly we have Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. Okay, this is a bit of anathema to say but I don’t care for Resident Evil. I know this is quite a popular release in the series, but be it classic, middle era, or modern RE I just can’t get into it. That being said, I doubt I’ll give this one a go. Hate to say it, but I’d rather be honest – I’d rather play any of the other games than this one.
Incidentally, of course, the peanut gallery in the comments is treating this like the only worthwhile game being provided this month, continuing to demonstrate the entitled nature of the gaming masses.. but that’s another story.
All in all, a neat lineup.
