Today happens to be Lunar New Year — that is, the beginning of the year for calendars based on the lunar cycle. It’s still just an arbitrary measurement of time, but its one I like — it’s a slightly more interesting calendar to look at (especially as several holidays here in the west, such as Easter, are still based on lunar cycles) but it’s also tied directly to the “Chinese Zodiac” (or, if you prefer, East Asian Zodiac) concept.
Let’s be clear, I don’t believe such. I just love symbolism, patterns, and fun mythic / mystic aspects of many cultures, especially those of East Asia. When you combine that like of symbolism with this Lunar New Year following right after my birthday this year, well, the gears start turning.
Since this is the Year of the Tiger, I’m drawn to look at what that could mean symbolically — tigers are hunters. They strike fast, leaping at their prey and using their raw strength to get the job done.
What would that mean for me symbolically? Perhaps that I should embrace those aspects going forward with this site this year. Having been reserved the past two years as I’ve worked on personal growth, perhaps now is the time for me to leap back into action, striking at whatever target (read, subject) comes into range.
Like I said, I’m one to look for symbolism — this is, in effect, for “fun.” If I get writing and I’m not feeling it’s what I want to do, I’ll certainly change tactics, but given it’s been two years since the “slowdown” of this site I think I’m overdue to get back into the swing of things.
Let’s do this.
