With February done and dusted it’s time to look at the March Games with Gold lineup. Will it be something special or another snooze-fest? Well, seeing Spongebob on the video thumbnail doesn’t bode well, but let’s take a serious look at the video itself.
In the modern lineup we have The Flame in the Flood and Street Power Soccer.
I’ll fully admit The Flame and the Flood looks interesting, but I’ve grown extremely tired of crafting-survival type games. They are very much a “one and done” kind of thing for me, and I’ve had my fill between Minecraft, Terraria and, more on the survival extent, State of Decay. It’s at least something. Really, the game does look like a great time — it’s pretty and I’m sure the soundscape is just as well designed as the visuals, but I just can’t devote energy into those kinds of games anymore
Following that we get… Street Power Soccer.
Let me explain, I don’t give a rats ass about Soccer. I don’t care for sports in general, but Soccer is one that especially bores me to no end. This may be a fun game, since it does take liberties and isn’t a normal Soccer game to any end, but given the subject matter I still can’t really give a damn.
In the classic lineup we get Sacred 2 Fallen Angel and SpongeBob’s Truth or Square.
Sacred 2… another Action RPG. Well, at least it’s regarded as a solid title. I may give it a go, but as much as I love RPG’s I just don’t have time anymore for them…. which I type while I’m in the middle of my 3rd run through Dragon’s Crown on the PSVita… so I guess I do have time but only for one game every few months. Anyway, at least it’s a solid title.
Lastly, we have SpongeBob’s Truth or Dare.. oh wait, that’s what they titled it as in the freaking video description. No, it’s more cleverly titled Truth or Square because, you know, SquarePants.
This is obviously the kids game this time around, but, and I’m being completely serious, these SpongeBob games are generally well regarded. It’s a universe that many enjoy and the games are apparently more fun than one may think, if you can just relax and take it for what it is, anyway. I’d take that over a Disney game or another damned Lego game any day of the week.. or, er, month of the year.
So that’s that. I’d say a mixed bag that’s kind of a low point, but there is still something here for most people, I’d say.
That’s that. The peanut gallery has the usual comments, and beyond that I’ve got nothing else to add so, that’s that. See everyone next month.
Interestingly, I’ve played Sacred 2, albeit on PS3. Never finished it. There’s a lot to this game.
