A few months back, after watching videos on the game by YouTuber AqualungGameReviews I decided to give Mega Man Maker a try. Mega Man maker is, as the name implies, a game where you can make and play your own Mega Man levels using re-creations of actual Mega Man assets from games 1-11.
While not “complete” by any stretch of the imagination — there’s quite a bit not yet programmed — it does contain quite the diverse assortment of elements from the series, allowing people to create everything from basic levels that feel like they are actually from the games to massive Metroid style adventure maps, or gimmick levels that take gameplay in a new direction. It’s got quite a strong player base, but not one so active as for you not to be able to follow new level publications from day to day. It’s a healthy balance.
While I haven’t played as many Mega Man games as I should, nor am I that great at them, I do love the series (especially Mega Man 4) and a few months ago I thought it would be nice to try making my own levels and publishing them, and I did. Feedback was pretty positive, save for one level which I honestly think people might not “get” the idea behind, which is fine. I had fun making it and enjoy playing it.
I think I’ve published, if memory serves, about 6 levels, and I intend on doing individual articles on each of them, and more as I continue to create them. While over the past couple of months I’ve taken a break from the game, I’m feeling the urge again to play and publish levels and, well, I think that’s something I will keep at, and document that progress here.
That’s really it, I just wanted to share that I do enjoy this project and am a creator on it. If you’re curious, you can learn more here: https://megamanmaker.com/
