Today is December 21st, 2022 — 10 years since the dreaded “Mayan Apocalypse” that pop culture wouldn’t shut the fuck up about in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s. A total load of horse shit that was based off a miss-reading of the end date of a long count Mayan calendar, combined with the usual case of people just making shit up for the hell of it.
I bring this up because it was one of those things that people just wouldn’t shut the fuck up about, and many people I knew took somewhat seriously, but is now all but forgotten in the general consciousness. Honestly I’ve not seen a single post online mentioning it even casually and while, sure, I have been at work all day, but honestly in event just a casual check of social media you’d think I would have seen something, right?
I wonder how many people are still getting royalty checks from books or TV shows they did back then hyping up that BS — can’t be much now, can it, so they’ve more than likely moved on to some other grift or have simply continued what they originally were doing before 2012 fever caught everyone as badly as fears over the Y2K bug did back in 1999.
What’s my point here? There isn’t one. I just wanted to mention that whole thing because it was seriously as stupid then as it seems to be now to think back on it… and to also pull the whole “holy shit that was 10 years ago” thing. Yeah, time moves on, we all get older, but stupidity, that lives forever!
Here’s to everyone goring ape shit when the year 2038 problem strikes. Plan accordingly.
