6 episodes in we finally arrive at the other galaxy and, spoiler alert, the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn — the planet of Peridea. While the last episode focused on the events surrounding Ahsoka after the evil trio began their hyperspace journey to Peridea, episode 6 focuses on said evil trio, plus Sabine, as they arrive and meet up with Thrawn.
Yeah, we finally get to see the big blue bad in the flesh. Not that it means as much to me, having not seen rebels, as it would a fan of said series, but knowing that the character, at least in legends, was an absolute bad-ass made this first experience with him, even in new-canon form, still pretty cool. He does come off as a cold, calculating badass playing the long game: a kind of evil that I find exceptionally entertaining in a story — hell, Palpatine was the same way and look at how much of a “love to hate him” character he is!
Long story short Sabine does find Ezra which, much like seeing Thrawn, would have certainly been a more emotionally resonant scene had I watched Rebels. Still, their reactions to seeing one another felt right for what I do know of the characters and while I wasn’t filling with emotions I was happy to see the two reunited.
This was a more subdued episode, for sure, but it did have its share of action. Otherwise, it was paced steadily and really worked to move the plot forward, establishing the situation with Thrawn and his, for lack of a better term, cult, on Peridea, their interaction with the crazy space witches that live on the world and, of course, finally reuniting Sabine and Ezra… all while introducing us to yet another world that, thankfully, isn’t Tatooine!
The fantasy elements were toned back this time around and beyond some core Star Wars tropes, it was otherwise a rather standard storytelling experience. One could say an episode we needed.
Yeah, I’m still enjoying the series. Eager to see what happens when Ahsoka arrives on Peridea, but also not so overly excited and eager that I can’t wait patiently. Honestly it’s a nice position to be in when watching a series as its released.
No complaints this episode. It was just a good episode. Not great, but it didn’t need to be. We’ll see how things go next week.
