Last night I was pleased to have the chance to catch an amazing debate between AtheistJunior and everyone’s favorite convicted felon, Kent Hovind. Yeah, it’s time for another dive into the insanity that is Hovind; this time in debate form.
To be precise, this is the 4th major direct debate between AJ and Hovind, and this one had a very specific focus in the greater evolution vs creation “debate” — In particular, Embryology, the research and drawings of Ernst Haeckel, and gill slits — more properly pharyngeal arches in embryos.
Let’s provide context — AJ and Hovind have been going at it for a number of years now. I forget exactly when I discovered AJ’s channel but I immediately liked it and have been following his work for at least two years now. As mentioned, this is the 4th main debate between the two, and AJ has grown from a nervous but still capable debater to what I can only describe as a razor focused assassin who now is well versed in Kent’s entire shtick and is prepared for near everything — the lies, the meandering rants, the insults — none of it phases him.
Instead, this time around, right from the get go AJ incredibly eloquently covers the topics at hand — Embryology and Haeckel — as he also holds Hovind’s feet to the fire. He presses Kent to answer questions posed to him, and to stay on topic — two things Kent will never do but he expects others to do absolutely.
Hovind is clearly upset from the get-go: his script just can’t address what AJ says (that is to say, what the facts actually are) so instead Kent has to resort to his usual long winded false analogies about car-parts being analogous to living creatures, that somehow there being no record of Haeckel’s trial happening it just means there’s no proof of it *not* happening (absolutely ass backwards thinking that he would never accept for anything else.) a bit of doxxing via last name dropping (pretty scummy shit and he clearly knows it from his reaction when AJ calls him out on it) and well, it’s Hovind being Hovind: an overgrown narcissistic child, at best.
Let’s be clear that I don’t have commentary on anything in particular — at least, not here, not now. I just wanted to express some thoughts on this event overall and share it for the sake of interested parties who may not be aware of it happening to, well, check it out.
I seriously do believe this was a very strong presentation of the facts surrounding the topic at hand, and I learned some things from it. If only Kent could actually learn anything, instead of just running his script by saying “nu-uh” all the time.
That being said, here’s the debate, mirrored on AJ’s channel. Enjoy.
