I haven’t done this in several years, but I felt like now would be as good a time as any to balance out the last entry I posted with an update on my gaming preferences currently as, yes, I do make time to game, when I feel the urge.
Right now, I divide my time between Guild Wars 2, San Andreas Definitive Edition (yes, I know…) and good old Minecraft.
On the Guild Wars 2 subject, I decided I think a month ago now I’d jump back into the game once again, and have been having a good time, taking it easy but still trying to make progress in the seemingly never ending list of things to do in Tyria. I just really enjoy the game and while I’ve taken huge breaks from it before, I always find myself coming back and loving the game just as much as I did day one.
Minecraft just had the release of the 1.21 update, bringing more new features and even more incentive for me to fire it up off and on and just relax doing some exploring or building stupid junk. It’s a fun “fire up to just zone out” kind of game for me and the way I’m playing the current world I’m in, which I am certain is a year old now, so that’s cool.
Lastly, San Andreas: Definitive Edition. Yep, I finally decided I’d go on and grab the abominations that are the Definitive Editions of the main 3 Grand Theft Auto 3D era games. I had actually forgotten I had the original versions of 3 and Vice City on Steam, but I wanted San Andreas which was of course de-listed, and since the Definitive Edition comes as a bundle, well, I wound up with all 3 of them. I did start a bit on Vice City but I’ve been focusing on San Andreas and, well, I’m almost done with the game, but goddamn it’s been a chore at times.
Yeah, they are still a mess. A bit buggy at times, and not accurate to the original release in several ways, some of them kind of critical at times, but all around, yeah, for PlayStation 2 Era Renderware based games ported to the Unreal Engine, I can say from what I’ve played they do still feel like Grand Theft Auto 3D era — they are just, well, different. Sadly, not in a good way. Totally playable and at some times damn nice, but at other times beyond frustrating.
I’d rather play a black label copy of San Andreas on PS2, but I just don’t have that available, so this is the best I can do for now: The Defective Editions on PC.
With that, I leave to catch up on some events in Guild Wars 2. See you in Lion’s Arch.
